Waterloo Bucks News Release
Waterloo, IA - The Waterloo Bucks, a member of the Northwoods League, have announced the signing of outfielder Benny Roberts to their roster for the 2012 season. Roberts,a freshman at Washington State University, is the 20th player to be named to Waterloo's roster for the team's 18th season.
The left-handed hitting center fielder was a seventh round draft pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Roberts has yet to play this season for Washington State after an off-season wrist injury. "I have heard nothing but excellent things about the Bucks organization and the Northwoods League, said Roberts," and I am looking forward to playing for one of the best summer ball teams in the country this summer!" The 6'4", 210-pounder was the 214th player selected in the MLB Draft. Roberts, a native of Missoula, Montana, was listed as the top prospect from Montana in last year's graduating high school class by baseballnorthwest.com b8facMvXLpDtjzJkrUhOg]. Born September 7, 1992, Roberts attended Sentinel High School. Last summer, Roberts hit .404 with 17 doubles, four triples, and 11 home runs with 58 RBI, while helping the Missoula Mavericks to a 53-17 mark and a third-place finish at the Montana American Legion tournament. Benny is the son of Raphael and Cheri.
The Bucks will open the 2012 season at home versus the Rochester Honkers on May 30 at 6:35 pm. Season tickets and single-game tickets are currently on sale. Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com.
