Bucks Tripped Up In Third, Fall 5-3

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Mississippi Riverkings 5-3 Tuesday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The loss ends the Bucks five game winning streak, as they fall to 10-5 (20pts). Laredo ends their season high seven game home stand with a 5-2 mark.

The Bucks could not hold a 3-2 third period lead, as they gave up three goals in the final stanza to suffer the defeat. The loss was the first for the Bucks when leading after two periods this season (6-1) .

Mississippi's Matt Pierce tied the game at 3-3 just 3:04 into the third, with Dane Marshall scoring the winning goal for the 'Kings 5:52 into the third. Marshall's game-winning strike came from the left point.

Bobby Chaumont would ice the game for the Riverkings as he scored with 1:24 remaining, to give Mississippi a 5-3 lead. Laredo was outshot in the third period 14-7, and for the game 31-22.

Sebastien Centomo (7-4) took the loss as he stopped 26 shots against his former team, while Kevin Beech was victorious in net against his former mates, setting aside 19 shots.

Mississippi (9-7) would strike first just 1:57 into the opening period, as they tallied a power-play goal. Darryl Stoddard slamed in an open shot from the right crease, as he took a feed from Garrett Larson. Stoddard picked up his second tally of the season.

The Bucks (8-3 at home) would tie the game 11:26 into the first, as Rick Kozak gained a measure of revenge against his former team. Kozak rocketed a shot from the right slot past former Buck Kevin Beech, off of a pass from Darryl Smith. Serge Dube also picked up an assist on the score.

Kozak would strike again, this time on the power-play, as he gave the Bucks a 2-1 lead with just 54 seconds left in the first. Kozak stuffed in his own rebound on the left side of the crease, to tally his second goal of the night. Smith and Jeff Bes picked up assists on the tally. Bes extended his CHL-best point streak to 13 games.

Laredo outshot Mississippi in the first 20 minutes 7-6.

The Riverkings would tie the score at 2-2 as they tallied a short-handed goal with 6:54 left in the second period. Former Buck Bobby Chaumont took a pass and streaked down the right side of the ice, sending a laser slap shot past Sebastien Centomo from the right circle. The goal was number 11 for Chaumont this year to lead Mississippi.

The Bucks would re-take the lead with just 41 seconds left in the period, as Bes rifled in a power-play goal from the right side of the crease past Beech. The strike was number four for Bes on the campaign, as he slid into first place in the CHL scoring race (4-22=26). Smith picked up his third assist of the game on Bes' goal.

The Bucks were outshot in the second period 11-8.

The Bucks will play in Arizona on Friday and Saturday, in a re-match of last season's Southern Conference Finals. Both games in the Desert start at 8:05pm Laredo time.

The Bucks will return home December 4-5, when they host Rio Grande Valley and Arizona.
