
Bucks Snap Losing Streak: Beat Ice Bats 4-1

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Austin Ice Bats Wednesday night 4-1 at the Laredo Entertainment Center. With the win the Bucks snapped their three-game losing streak while increasing their CHL-leading point total to 36 (17-6-2).
The Bucks jumped out in front 1-0 at 8:39 of the opening period. With the Bucks on a five-on-three power-play Adam Rivet scored his sixth goal of the year as he sent a slap shot from the slot past Austin goaltender Miguel Beaudry. Serge Dube and Chris Korchinski picked up assists on Rivet's goal. The goal ended a 0-for-21 slump on the power-play for the Bucks.
Austin (6-16-1) tied the game up at 1-1 with just 28 seconds left in the first period when R.G Flath scored a power-play goal off of a nice pass from Jaimie Thompson in front of the Bucks net past Dustin Traylen. The goal ended a 79:32 minute scoreless drought by the Bats against the Bucks this season. The Bucks outshot the Ice Bats in the period 11-8.
The Bucks (10-3 at home) took a 2-1 lead 4:35 into the second period as Jeff Genovy scored his third goal of the year on a two-on-one break off of a nice pass from Brent MacSween.
Laredo increased their lead to 3-1 just 1:04 later at the 5:39 mark when Andrew Desjardins continued his fine rookie season as he scored from the slot off a quick pass from Jef Bes. It was Desjardins eighth goal of the season. With the assist Bes snapped his five-game pointless streak.
The Bucks outshot the Ice Bats in the second period 14-9.
The Bucks put the finishing touches on the win with just 1:07 left in the third when Alex Penner scored an empty-net goal to make it 4-1. It was Penner's third tally of the year and second goal in the last three games. Penner scored just one goal in Laredo's previous 21 games.
Traylen picked up the win in the Laredo net stopping 25 of the Ice Bats 26 shots to improve to 11-5-1. Traylen's 11 wins ties him for the league lead with three other goalies.
Beaudry took the loss in the Austin net setting aside 24 of 27 Laredo shots.
The Bucks will head to Corpus Christi Thursday to practice at the American Bank Center, before taking on the Rayz Friday night at 7:05. The Bucks have lost the last two games in regulation to the Rayz.
