Hounds win thriller in OT

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds needed an explosive third period and overtime to defeat the Texas Brahmas 4-3 on Wednesday night.
The Brahmas took a 2-0 lead into the third period as Tyler Skworchinski and Chris Thompson scored power play goals in the first and second periods respectively to give the Brahmas the lead. Texas was 3-9 on the power play for the night. The Hounds had out shot Texas 18-8 after two periods.
In the third period the comeback was kick started by Adam Smyth as he scored his seventh goal of the year 4:02 to make it 2-1 game. The Hounds tied the game just 1:38 later as Jason Baird scored his sixth goal of the season. A five on three opportunity led to Eric Przepiorka netting his 11th goal of the year to give Youngstown a 3-2 lead with 11:38 to play. The Brahmas were not going to go down quietly as Kevin McLeod scored to tie the game at three and force overtime.
At 4:02 of overtime Joel Irving weaved his way past two defenders and was able to beat David Cacciola for the game winner. It is the second time in three home games that the Hounds have won in overtime. Joel Irving has both extra frame game winners.
Youngstown out shot the Brahmas 2-0 in overtime and 33-16 for the game. Youngstown is now 16-5-1 (33 points) and has a four point lead on the Mississippi RiverKings for first place in the Northeast Division. Texas is now 12-6-1 (25 points) and in third place in the Northeast Division.
These two teams will meet up again on Friday night at 7:05 from the Chevrolet Centre. All Hounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.
