Waterloo Bucks News Release
Waterloo, IA - The Waterloo Bucks have announced that right-handed pitcher Derringer Huff has signed to play with Waterloo for the 2015 season. Huff, a redshirt junior at South Dakota State University, is the 12th player to be named to the Bucks' roster for the team's 21st season.
Huff appeared in six games last season for the Jackrabbits, finishing with a 5.59 ERA and six strikeouts. The 6'4", 200-pounder pitched 9.2 innings and started one game.
"Derringer comes highly recommended to us from South Dakota State assistant coach Brian Grunzke," said Bucks general manager Dan Corbin. "Coach Grunzke, head coach [Dave] Schrage and the Jackrabbits have a positive history with our organization and we're excited to be able to bring in another player from their program."
The Troy, Missouri native has appeared in one game this season for South Dakota State, throwing one inning and giving up one run. Huff appeared in the Jackrabbits 3-1 loss to Austin Peay on Saturday.
Born May 16, 1993, Huff played his prep ball at Troy Buchanan High School where he lettered in baseball three times. Prior to attending South Dakota State, Huff played at Lincoln Land Community College where we went 3-9 with 64 strikeouts in 65 2/3 innings.
The Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28.
