Bucks Prepare For Playoff Run: "Pack The House For Charity" Saturday
March 26, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League are preparing this week for the 2008 CHL Playoffs. The only question remains is who will their opponent be.
Laredo will play the winner of the Odessa/Austin series in the Conference Semi-Finals, starting Saturday night at the LEC on "Pack The House For Charity Night". Tickets are available for a minimum $5 donation to charity, with all proceeds going to the Sacred Heart Childen's Home and the South Texas Food Bank. Call 718-BUCK (2825) or go to the LEC box office to order your tickets.
The Bucks had trouble with both of their possible second round opponents, going just 1-3 against the Jackalopes, with the only win coming in overtime, and 4-3-1 against the Ice Bats, including losing the final four meetings with their division foe (0-3-1).
Three of the four meetings with Odessa were one-goal games, with one ending in overtime, and one in a shootout. Laredo's only win against Odessa came on December 2nd at the LEC, when Chris Korchinski scored 58 seconds into overtime to give the Bucks a 2-1 win. Kevin Beech picked up the win in net for Laredo, but he has since been traded to Youngstown.
The âJacks would take the other three meetings, winning in Laredo 3-2, and taking both games in Odessa 4-3 in a shootout, and handing the Bucks a season-worst 6-0 defeat on December 20th. In the âJacks shootout win the Bucks had a 3-1 lead with a little over 12 minutes left in the third period before Odessa came storming back for the win.
Against Austin this season Laredo won the first four games of the series by a combined 15-4, but once the calender changed to 2008 the Bucks went 0-3-1 against Austin, losing by a combined 15-7. Laredo went 1-3 at the Chaparal Ice Arena this year, losing the last three games there.
The Bucks will know their opponent either Wednesday or Thursday. Odessa leads the best-of-three series with Austin one game to nothing, with game two Wednesday night in Austin. If the Ice Bats win at home they will force a deciding game three Thursday night back in Odessa.
As soon as the Bucks know their opponent the series schedule will be finalized and released, games one and two are set for Saturday March 29th at 7:30pm, and Monday March 31st at 7pm.
