Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, Texas – The defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks physically dominated the Memphis RiverKings 5-1 on Saturday night in front of 5,967 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks have won three straight and have recorded points in four of the last five games to move into a tie for second place in the SE Division with Austin. Laredo is on the road Sunday against the Ice Bats. The Bucks return home next Friday and Saturday against the Corpus Christi Rayz. Face off both nights is set for 7:30 p.m. For Laredo Bucks season or single game tickets call (956)-718-BUCKS (2825) or log onto www.laredobucks.com and buy online.

The Bucks quickly went to work in the first period on a power play chance and capitalized to break an 0-23 stretch on the power play. Laredo defenseman Paul Elliott fired a shot from the point that forward Brent Cullaton redirected into the net at 2:26. It was the second of the year for Cullaton and extended his point streak to three straight. Later in the period the Bucks were back on the attack. Defenseman Steve Makway fired a shot from the left wall that forward James Hiebert tipped by Memphis goalie David Lemanowicz for a 2-0 lead at 12:01. It was the second straight game with a goal for Hiebert and his fourth of the year.

In the second the game turned physical. Late in the period Memphis tried to fight their way back in the game, but the series of scraps only energized the crowd and the Bucks. Laredo forward Steve Simoes cut down the right wing, faked a pass then slipped the puck five-hole on Lemanowicz for a fabulous goal at 18:39. It was the third lamp of the year for Simoes. Less than a minute later it was Cullaton cutting down the left wing and wristing the puck into the net for his second of the night at 19:35 and a 4-0 Bucks lead.

Early in the third period the RiverKings got on the scoreboard when defenseman Jeremy Goetzinger worked hard on the fore check and poked the puck off the stick of Cullaton and right past Bucks goalie Jeremy Symington into the net at 3:03. Just over the halfway point of the third period the Bucks finished off the scoring as Hiebert slipped a pass to the slot that forward Igor Agarunov ripped into the net for his third of the season at 12:19. FINAL SCORE Laredo 5, Memphis 1.

Symington stopped 17 of 18 shots and broke a two game losing streak to improve to 2-2-0. Lemanowicz was pulled after two periods allowing four goals on 19 shots and falling to 4-5-0. Daniel Boisclair played the final twenty minutes for Memphis and stopped 10 of 11 shots. The Bucks went 1-4 on the power play while the RiverKings were 0-8. The Bucks have stopped 33 of the last 36 opposition power play chances.
