
Bucks Fall to Komets on St. Patrick's Day

LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, fell to Fort Wayne 5-2.
The Laredo Bucks faced the Fort Wayne Komets for the second straight night Saturday night in Fort Wayne. Laredo won Friday night in overtime 4-3 over the Komets. Laredo would go into the contest without Rusty Masters or Matt Hanson in the line-up.
The Komets were the first on the board for the second straight night, when Mike Vaskivuo walked in on Torrie Jung at 6:21. The goal gave Ft. Wayne a 1-0 lead. The Bucks tied the game at 1-1, when Colin McIntosh hit the open side of the net at 10:15. Ryan Sparling assisted on McIntosh's second goal of the year. The rest of the period was spent in transition, with zone to zone play. The Bucks were awarded a powerplay late in the first at 17:45. However, the Komets were able to score a short-handed goal at 19:26, to end the period with a 2-1 lead. The Bucks were outshot 10-5 in the first period.
After spending most of the first half of the second period in their own zone, Laredo started attacking the Komets zone. The Bucks would go on the powerplay at 14:03, but would not be able to find the net. Seconds after the powerplay expired, A.J. Hau would score an even strength goal going under the crossbar and top shelf. Tyler Stitt and Trevor Hunt assisted on the game tying goal. The game would not be tied for long. Kaleigh Schrock hit the short-side over the shoulder of Jung at 18:03. The goal gave the Komets a 3-2 lead. The Bucks outshot the Komets 10-9 in the middle frame.
Laredo had several good opportunities to start the final period of play. The Bucks would go on the powerplay at 4:26. However, the Komets would score another short-handed goal at 5:31. Kaleigh Schrock scored his second straight goal, giving Ft. Wayne a 4-2 lead. The Komets would extend their lead to 5-2, when Bobby Chaumont jabbed in the puck at 15:10. Laredo was outshot by the Komets 18-6 during the third period.
The Bucks will remain on the road for their final 4 games of the 2011-2012 regular season. Laredo will face the Dayton Gems for the first time tomorrow, March 18th at 3pm.
