Bucks' Deschatelets Named Player Of The Week

LAREDO, TX- The Central Hockey League announced Monday that Laredo Bucks forward Sylvain Deschatelets has been named the Oakley/CHL player of the week for the period ending February 28th.

Deschatelets (pronounced day-SHAT-a-lay), who signed with the Bucks last Wednesday (Feb. 24th), picked up seven points (3-47) with a plus-six rating in his first three games with the team last week in leading them to a 2-1 record.

The 30-year-old Deschatelets had three assists Thursday in his Bucks debut in Allen while scoring three goals in two home wins over the weekend. Deschatelets had the game-winning goal in Friday's 3-2 win over Rio and scored two goals and added an assist in Saturday's 5-1 thumping of Texas.

Two of his three games with the Bucks thus far have been multi-point nights for Deschatelets.

The 6'2'', 210 pound Deschatelets ended the weekend with a plus-six rating putting him tied for second on the Bucks in that category.

Deschatelets is the third Bucks player to earn weekly honors this season joining J.P Levasseuer (goaltender of the week Nov. 9th) and Darryl Smith (player of the week Jan. 25th).

Deschatelets is in his 10th professional season and had scored a total of 508 points (149-359508) in 492 career games before joining the Bucks.

Deschatelets spent the last four seasons playing overseas where he put up a total of 192 points (68-124168) in 145 games.

Deschatelets, a native of Bellville, Quebec, began this season playing in the Quebec Senior League before making his way to Laredo.

Last season Deschatelets, a native of Blainville, Quebec, scored 78 points (30-4878) in 54 games for the EIHL's Coventry Blaze.

In his professional career Deschatelets has played in a total of 347 professional games in the AHL, ECHL, UHL and WCHL.

Deschatelets put up a career high 81 (24-5781) points in 2003-04 with the San Diego Gulls (ECHL).

In 1999-00 Deschatelets put up 100 points (41-59100) in his final junior season in Quebec.
