
Bucks Bitten by Sundogs

LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, lose in a 4-3 heartbreaker to the Arizona Sundogs on Saturday night.
The Laredo Bucks faced a Sundog offensive attack during the first period of play Saturday night in Arizona. Laredo Bucks goaltender Torrie Jung stood his ground in his net withstanding the Sundog attack during the first half of the period. However, Jean-Philipp Chabot was able to get one past Jung from the right circle at the 12:54 mark giving the Sundogs a 1-0 lead. At the 18:26 mark of the period, David Nimmo made the score 2-0 after a no-call caused confusion on the ice.
The Laredo Bucks offense took over during the second period. Todd Griffith lit the lamp first for the Bucks on a delayed penalty call, when he buried the puck between the legs of the Sundog goaltender at 2:33. Mark Nebus and Jason Reese assisted on the goal, making it a one goal game. The Bucks faced a 5-3 penalty kill at the 7:17 mark of the second. The Laredo Bucks special teams killed the penalty and as Jason Reese and Todd Griffith exited the penalty box, the puck was delivered to them on a 2-0 breakaway. Jason Reese drove the puck into the net at 9:29 off a pass from Todd Griffith tying the game at 2-2. The Bucks took the lead when Rusty Masters scored a powerplay goal from the bottom right circle at 15:03 in the second period. Matt Hanson and Todd Griffith assisted on the goal, giving the Bucks a 3-2 lead to close out the period.
Torrie Jung made several huge saves to start the third period, but the Sundogs would tie the game at 7:38. Jean-Philipp Chabot scored a powerplay goal with only one second remaining in the man advantage. The Sundogs would once again take the lead at 4-3 when Damen Rycroft scored on a rebound at 9:32.in the third. The Laredo Bucks would pull Torrie Jung for the final minute and a half of play but could not tie the game. Torrie Jung faced 42 shots and made 38 saves in the game.
The Bucks will now return home for their Opening Weekend on Friday, October 28th and Saturday, October 29th. The Bucks will once again face-off against their rivals, the Rio Grande Killer Bees, at the Laredo Energy Arena. Call 718-BUCK to get your tickets today.
