
Bucks Beat Bees 5-2, Agarunov Scores Two Goals

HIDALGO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks rallied from an early deficit and beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 5-2 in front of 5,147 fans at the Dodge Arena. Forward Igor Agarunov scored two goals to lead the Bucks to their season high third straight win. Laredo is 5-3-0 with 10 points and all alone in first place in the Southeast Division. The Bucks return home on Saturday against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. Rio Grande Valley took the lead with an early goal. Forward Rob Voltera found defenseman Kurtis Dulle at the bottom of the left circle for a top shelf wrist shot 1:41 into the game. Then defenseman Ryan Carrigan blasted a slap shot from the high slot thru a screen to make it 2-0 Killer Bees just 4:08 into the game. The Bucks came roaring back as defenseman Adam Rivet led a two-on-one rush down the right side and scored his second of the season on a wrist shot at 6:02. Forward Igor Agarunov stuffed home a rebound at 11:05 to tie the game at 2-2. It was the second of the year for Agarunov. Late in the period the Bucks took the lead on the power play as forward Leo Thomas tipped in a pass from Rivet for his second of the season at 16:41.
Early in the second period the Bucks extended their lead as Agarunov cut in front and lifted a backhander high glove side for his second of the game at 2:53 for a 4-2 advantage.
In the third period the Bucks put the game away when rookie forward Bobby Chaumont found rookie forward Chris Korchinski for a backdoor stuff in at 16:33. It was the fourth of the season for Korchinski. FINAL SCORE Laredo 5, Rio Grande Valley 2.
Nathan Marsters stopped 24 of 26 shots and got the win to improve to 2-2-0. Jeff Van Nynatten allowed four goals on 22 shots and fell to 1-3-0. The Bucks were 1-6 on the power play while Rio Grande Valley was 0-5. The Killer Bees out shot the Bucks 26-22.
