Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

Youngstown, Ohio----The Youngstown SteelHounds spoiled the Arizona Sundogs first ever home game with a 6-0 victory in Prescott Valley, Arizona on Friday night. The victory snapped a three game losing streak for the Hounds. Shaun Landolt and newly acquired Hound Tab Lardner contributed 2 goals each in the contest.

The SteelHounds made a first impression on the Sundog fans by taking a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. Shaun Landolt recorded both goals in the period giving him four on the season. The first came when Landolt settled into a spot on the left of the goal crease where defensemen Kelly Sickavish found him for the 1-0 lead. Then at the 16:20 mark of the frame, Landolt struck again with another goal from the left side of the goal crease this time off a rebound from Tab Lardner's shot to give the Hounds the 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.

The Hounds tallied three more scores in the second period, the first one coming from newly acquired Hound Tab Lardner as he tapped in a deflection through the side of Sundogs goalie Kris Mayotte for the 3-0 lead. Then at the 10:54 mark of the second frame, John Wheaton and Lardner broke out on a 2 on 1 situation when Lardner fed Wheaton who streaked up the right wing for the Hounds fourth goal of the contest. The Hounds would get one more at the 18:27 mark of the second period when defensemen John Neal fired a wrist shot from the blue line through screens for the 5-0 lead at the end of the second frame.

Lardner would add one more in the third when he flew down the left side and flipped the puck up over the shoulder of Mayotte for the 6-0 advantage.

Arizona outshot the Hounds in the game 30-18. Hounds goalie David Currie notched his first shutout of the season, stopping all 30 shots that he faced and got his first win of the season. Kris Mayotte saved 13 of 19 shots and was saddled with his first loss of the season.

The Hounds and Sundogs will play the rematch tomorrow night at the Tim's Toyota Center with face-off scheduled for 9:00 EST.
