Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TX: April 1, 2005 – The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 are closing out their training camp and will have a "bye week" this weekend, as the af2 kicks off the 2005 season. Training camp comes to a close on Saturday and the practice session will feature a new face, as the af2 assigned defensive specialist Corl Bucknor to the Dorados.

Bucknor comes to the Rio Grande Valley from the Tennessee Valley Vipers, where he played under Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy. The Augusta, Georgia native suffered a season-ending injury last season with the Vipers and was limited to six games. Despite his injury, the 6'0 190-pound Bucknor still ranked seventh on the Vipers squad in tackles with 16.5 (10 solo) and third in pass breakups with 11. Bucknor also had 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Prior to Tennessee Valley, Bucknor attended NFL training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers after completing a college career at Southern Arkansas in 2002. Bucknor's honors in 2002 included Second Team All-South Region, Third Team Football Gazette All-South Region, First Team All-Gulf South Conference and received the program's Outstanding Senior Athlete Award. In 33 games over his college career as a defensive back, Bucknor tallied 115 tackles, four interceptions and four pass breakups.

Dorados training camp continues with a final practice on Saturday at Hidalgo High School from 10 AM - noon. Head Coach Kevin Guy must cut down his training camp roster to 21 active players (international players do not count against the number) by April 3rd. Media members seeking an interview with head coach Kevin Guy or Corl Bucknor about today's move are encouraged to contact Chris Due at 956-843-5656.

The Dorados kick-off their 2005 campaign April 9th at the Dodge Arena, as they host the Louisville Fire. Season ticket packages and advertising opportunities are available by contacting the Dorados offices at 956-843-7825.
