Austin Bruins News Release
AUSTIN, MN - On an absolutely wild night, the Bruins came away with a big three-goal win over their Division Rival, the Aberdeen Wings.
Friday night's game marked the ninth meeting of the regular season between the Bruins and the Aberdeen Wings and going into the contest Austin held an eight-point lead in the Division. A scoreless first period and solid performance in net for both Trent Wiemken and Gino Pichora would start the night for both clubs.
Just a minute into the second period, the Bruins would get on the board first with an Exit Reality Refined Power Play goal scored by Ocean Wallace, his 7th of the year, to give the Bruins the early 1-0 lead. Matys Brassard and Gavin Morrissey would each pick up an assist on the goal. A little over halfway through the period, Austin Salani would make it a 2-0 lead as Damon Furuseth would find Salani in front of the net of Pichora. The lone goal of the night for Aberdeen would come at the 17:07 mark of the period, with Dylan Wegner picking up his 4th of the season for the Wings while on the Power Play.
A physical third period would set the tone for the remainder of the game, but that wouldn't deter the Bruins. Walter Zacher would pick up his team-leading 17th of the season at 12:27 of the period to make it then a 3-1 lead. Aberdeen would elect to pull their goalie to try to pull them back within a goal, but Nate Looft would find the empty net for his first career NAHL goal and seal the 4-1 win for the Bruins. Trent Wimeken would stop 25 of the 26 shots he would face in route to his 10th win of the season.
The Bruins look to complete the weekend sweep tomorrow night against the Wings with a 7:05 PM puck drop inside Riverside Arena.
