Austin Bruins News Release

RICHFIELD, MN - For the first time in 13 tries, the Minnesota Magicians defeated the Austin Bruins on Thursday night at Richfield Arena.

The Bruins outshot Minnesota 36-32 and got the game's first goal when Justin Misiak netted a power play goal from Miha Zajc and Paul O'Connor at 4:21. The Magicians responded with the next 3 goals, all before the period ended. First, Travis Brown capitalized on a Nick Wilson turnover and tied the game at 9:49 with a power play goal. The Magicians then took the lead at 15:02 when Pierce Crawford beat Bruins goaltender Austin Smith with a backhand in the slot. Less than a minute later, Alex Hamacher made it 3-1.

In the 2nd period, Travis Kothenbeutel was awarded a penalty shot after being hauled down on a shorthanded breakaway. Kothenbeutel ripped one up top past Magicians goalie Will Ulrich and brought the deficit back to just one.

Ulrich would lock it down from there however, stopping all 11 third period shots. Kris Carlson relieved Smith at the start of the 2nd period and stopped all 14 shots he faced. The Bruins return to Riverside Arena for the first time since October 17th to take on out-of-division opponent Coulee Region tomorrow night at 7:05.
