Brownville's Brian Marks Leads Privateers Past Frenzy 4-2

1000 Islands Privateers' defenseman Brian Marks scored twice and Josselin St. Pierre stopped 27 of 29 shots as the Privateers defeated the Rome Frenzy 4-2 in front of 457 at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center tonight. The team took their second straight against the Frenzy and now sit just two points out of first place.

The Privateers opened scoring in the first period as Marks tipped an Alex Goupil shot past Frenzy goalie Richard Scarsella. Tyler Fernandez extended his point streak to a league-high 16 with the second assist. 1000 Islands extended their lead in the second period as Goupil lit the lamp off feeds from Fernandez and Ryan Pearson. Harry Mahesh made it 3-0 with his first goal as a Privateer, with assists going to Nikita Poliakov and Adam McAllister. Rome spoiled the shutout in the third period as Anthony Monte scored, but Marks netted his second of the game off a pass from Alex Lacombe. Rome's Jeffrey Armando closed scoring. Kyle Roberts and Fernandez dropped the gloves to provide some excitement to the crowd.

The win tonight sets up an exciting contest tomorrow night. The Privateers and Akwesasne Warriors will play with first place on the line at 7 PM at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center. The Warriors lost top scorer Pierre Dagenais to the elite league of Norway, so the Privateers like their chances to take over first place with a win Saturday and Sunday at Akwesasne. Saturday night will also see the Official Pep Rally for the Hutchinson Memorial Tournament, as teams will be recognized at the second intermission. Participants in the Ed Lupia Memorial Tournament will be recognized during the first intermission.

The 1000 Islands Privateers operate in Alexandria Bay and are a founding franchise in the Federal Hockey League.
