
Brown Walk-Off Dooms Mets Again, Threshers Win 9-8

CLEARWATER, Fla. (June 18, 2015) - The Clearwater Threshers overcame a 7-0 deficit and went on to beat the St. Lucie Mets 9-8 on Thursday at Bright House Field.
For the second straight day Clearwater's Aaron Brown delivered a walk-off hit. His RBI single with no outs in the ninth brought home Dylan Cozens from third base to win it. Brown hit a game-winning home run to beat the Mets 4-3 on Wednesday.
The seven-run advantage is the largest blown lead by the Mets this season. They enter the Florida State League All Star Break on a two-game losing streak after winning their previous four.
The Mets raced out to a 5-0 lead in the second and added two more in the third. In the second, Victory Cruzado ripped a two-run triple. Cruzado delivered a two-run single in the third to make it 7-0.
The Threshers tied the game by scoring seven runs in the home half of the fourth. They pushed three runs across against Logan Taylor, then they loaded the bases to chase Taylor. Rob Whalen made his first relief appearance of the season and gave up a game-tying grand slam to Andrew Pullin.
Clearwater took the lead in the fifth. The first two batters made to it to second and third with no outs and Drew Stankiewicz hit a go-ahead sac fly to make it 8-7.
Dominic Smith tied the game 8-8 in the seventh with his third hit. He drove in Jeff McNeil with a two-out single.
Champ Stuart was hit by a pitch to start the top of the ninth. Jeff McNeil sacrificed Stuart to second with a bunt, but Stuart was stranded there.
Cozens started the bottom of the ninth with a single into right field. He then stole second. After Andrew Knapp walked, a wild pitch by Whalen moved runners to second and third with no outs. The Mets opted to pitch to Brown with first base open and he chopped a ball over Phil Evans' head at second base to win the game.
The Mets outhit the Threshers 14-9. Smith and Matt Oberste had three hits apiece. Cruzado drove in four runs.
Whalen took the loss. He pitched 4.2 innings and gave up four runs and three hits. Taylor allowed six runs in 3.1 innings.
Jesen Dygestile-Therrien pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth to get the win for the Threshers.
The Mets (34-33) will return to action on Monday at Jupiter.
