Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – For only the third-time this season, one player has garnered both the Fox Hole Fan Club and front office Player of the Week honors. Three-year veteran Michael Brown was selected as the team's most outstanding performer in the 43-13 win over the visiting Richmond Speed last Saturday night.

For Brown, the selection is his seventh overall in 2003 – five by the Fox Hole Fan Club and he was twice tabbed by the front office.

The defensive specialist who played sparingly on offense throughout the 2003 season led a strong defensive effort Saturday night, limiting the Speed to a single offensive score and a mere 13 points. Brown tallied five and a half tackles and had a pair of interceptions, giving him 25 for his career, which ties him for second on the all-time af2 career interceptions chart. He stands tied with the former leader, Tyrone Laster, who played with the Speed from 2000-02.

As if that weren't enough, Brown also caught a pair of Johnny Turman passes for 54 yards and a score. His receiving touchdown came from 45 yards out with only 34 seconds remaining in the first half. After getting a stop defensively, Brown returned the Peter Martinez missed field goal 56 yards for an additional score to end the first half giving the Foxes a commanding 30-0 lead at the break.

Brown finished the 2003 season as the Swamp Foxes leader in tackles with 57.0 and interceptions with nine, two shy of his single-season record of 11 set in 2002. He also holds the career record in both categories, having tallied 149 career tackles and 25 picks.

Offensively, Brown caught 13 passes for 270 yards (20.8 yards per catch) and five touchdowns, giving him 28 TD receptions in his career. He also led the team in kickoff returns in 2003, racking up 392 yards on 22 returns for an average of 17.8 yards per return.

Season tickets for the 2004 Swamp Foxes' season are on sale now. For more information, contact the Swamp Foxes at (843) 554-4321.
