Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush took the ice sporting their new black jerseys in the first ever 'Blackout' at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Ice Arena. Jared Brown led the way offensively with both Rush goals while rookie goaltender Neil Conway made 26 saves for his first professional victory in a 2-1 win over the Arizona Sundogs. The team now hits the road for a tilt against the Tulsa Oilers on Wednesday, November 7th. The game can be heard live on Rush flagship station, 100.3 the FOX or worldwide at foxradio.com.
Both squads hit the ice firing in the first period with chances on either side, but Arizona goalie David Brown and Rapid City's Neil Conway held strong as the game remained scoreless after one.
Just 1:25 into the second frame, a coast-to-coast play was set up by Garrett Gruenke that allowed Jared Brown to send a wrist shot from the high slot, beating David Brown five-hole. Just over two minutes later, Brown would strike again, this time on a 2-on-1 chance that finished with a snap shot just inside the left post, lifting the Rush to a two goal lead early in the frame. Near the midway point, the Sundogs cut the lead in half as Johan Ryd would tip in a rebound shot from Adam Smyth just over Conway's left pad.
The final period featured numerous chances for both teams, but once again, stellar goaltending by Brown and Conway kept the game at 2-1 until the final horn.
