Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY - The Cyclones defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades by the score of 6-2 on Friday night. Brooklyn turned a season-high five double plays defensively, and added three runs in the top of the ninth to give the 'Clones some breathing room.
Brooklyn drew first blood on Friday night, jumping in front in the top of the second. Nic Gaddis and Jaylen Palmer had a pair of singles to put two runners aboard with one out in the frame. Tanner Murphy then reached on a fielder's choice that put runners on the corners with two away. Jose Mena took advantage of the scoring chance with a perfectly placed bloop single to centerfield that plated Gaddis and also allowed Murphy to score all the way from first to give the Cyclones a 2-0 edge.
The lead would grow to 3-0 in the fourth when Jaylen Palmer had an RBI groundout that scored Gaddis.
Garrison Bryant (4-1) made the start for Brooklyn and cruised through his first 5.0 innings, aided by three double plays turned behind him. But in the sixth he ran into his first bit of trouble. Cooper Bowman and Anthony Seigler had back-to-back singles to start the frame and proceeded to pull off a double steal that put a pair of runners in scoring position with one away. Tyler Hardman stroked a single into left field to plate the pair and make it 3-2. But Bryant righted the ship, getting the final two outs of the frame without further incident and kept the 'Clones on top.
Nate Jones tossed the final 3.0 innings for Brooklyn to collect the save. The righthander didn't allow a hit and walked just one while striking out three, but had to work out of a jam in the bottom of the eighth. Nic Gaddis was charged with a pair of throwing errors that put two runners aboard to start the frame, but Jones struck out Anthony Seigler for the first out and then got Trey Sweeney to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.
Brooklyn improved to 5-2 in the second half of the season with the win. RHP Luis Moreno will make the start for Brooklyn on Saturday as they look to make it three in a row against the Hudson Valley Renegades.
