Brooklyn FC News Release
Davie, FL - Brooklyn Football Club (Brooklyn FC) women (10-7-9) earned their first win in 2025, defeating Fort Lauderdale United FC (9-7-8) 4-1 at Beyond Bancard Field. Forward Caroline Kelly and midfielder Hope Breslin each scored their first goals for Brooklyn FC, helping the team stay in the playoff race.
Fort Lauderdale came out strong in the opening 15 minutes. However, in the 18th minute, Brooklyn FC midfielder Jessica Garziano's high pressing forced a turnover as she blocked a clearance from Fort Lauderdale's goalkeeper Cosette Morche, deflecting the ball directly into the net to give Brooklyn a 1-0 lead.
In the 25th minute, Fort Lauderdale's midfielder Felicia Knox lofted a free kick into the box, and winger Sh'nia Gordon found the equalizer.
In the 37th minute, Fort Lauderdale's forward Kiara Locklear broke free one-on-one with Brooklyn goalkeeper Neeku Purcell, but Purcell made a crucial diving save to keep the match level.
The breakthrough came again in the 56th minute when winger Mackenzie George delivered a cross from the right, and Kelly finished at the near post to put Brooklyn ahead 2-1. It marked Kelly's first career goal.
Two minutes later, after Fort Lauderdale's clearance, Breslin struck a low shot from five feets outside the box. The ball skipped along the ground and nestled into the bottom corner, stretching Brooklyn's lead to 3-1.
"We know there are only a few games left, so it's now or never. The entire team has always had belief in each other and know we have what it takes to be successful," said Breslin. "I love playing with Sam (Kroeger) and Jess (Garziano) in the midfield, and think we all balance each other nicely. To score in the game tonight felt so good & was just a cherry on top of a great team win. Everyone showed up to play and win, and I'm so proud of us."
In the 61st minute, George battled past two defenders near the edge of the box, forcing a defensive own goal by Fort Lauderdale defender Cameron Brooks, pushing the score to 4-1.
The scoreline held through the final whistle, earning Brooklyn FC its first win since December 14 and handing Fort Lauderdale United its sixth straight match without a victory.
"The players did an outstanding job tonight. What really stood out was their mentality and attitude, they approached the game with determination, personality, and a real hunger to win," said Sporting Director Kevin Tenjo. "It was a complete performance and a well-deserved result for the group. This win gives us important momentum, and we'll look to build on it as we prepare for the final two home matches and make our push for the playoffs."
Next Saturday, Brooklyn FC will host the second to last home match of the season against the fourth-placed Spokane Zephyr FC (10-7-8). All matches are available live on Peacock. Multiple home match ticketing options, including multi-game and single-game, are available.
