Broncos Use The Long Ball to Defeat Amarillo

Amarillo, TX-The Laredo Broncos hit 3 home runs as they defeated the Amarillo Dillas in Amarillo by a score of 6-3 on Thursday night. The Broncos play the middle game of a 3 game series vs. the Dillas on Friday. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Broncos would get on the scoreboard 1st in the 2nd inning. With 2 outs, Arnoldo Ponce doubled. He would then score on a rbi double by newcomer Matt Imwalle. Ben Tinius then followed with a 2 run homer run, his 4th of the season. That gave Laredo a 3-0 lead.

The Broncos would tack on a run in the 3rd inning on a Luany Sanchez solo home run, his 18th home run of the season which leads the United League. That made the score 4-0.

The Dillas would get on the board in their half of the 3rd. With 2 outs, Jonathan Reynoso doubled. Keith Brachold would knock in Reynoso with a single, making the score 4-1.

Amarillo would add on another run in the 4th. With 1 out Andrew Wong hit a slow roller that Ben Tinius got to, but his throw was high, so Wong got the infield single and went to 2nd on the error. He would then score on a single by Stephen Douglas. That would make the score 4-2 in favor of the Broncos.

The Broncos would extend their lead to 5-2 in the top of the 7th when Matt Imwalle hit a solo home run, his 1st of the season for the Broncos.

Richard Bartlett would come out to start the 8th, but would give up a walk to Gary Schneidmiller. Bartlett would be taken out as David Wasylak came in. Wasylak would give up a rbi double to Danny Bravo but get next 3 batters as the score was now 5-3 with the Broncos in the lead.

The Broncos would add on a run in the 9th inning. Edgard Clemente led off with a walk and went to 2nd on a single by Dwayne White. Arnoldo Ponce then tried a sacrifice bunt by the throw trying to get the runner at 3rd was off target which allowed everyone to be safe. Matt Imwalle followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Clemente and giving the Broncos the 3 run lead. David Watkins would come into the game looking for the save.

Watkins would pitch a scoreless 9th inning as the Broncos took the first game of the series by a score of 6-3.

The Broncos scored 6 runs on 7 hits and committed 1 error, while the Dillas scored 3 runs on 9 hits and committed 0 errors.
