Broncos Lose in Stunning Fashion To Amarillo

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos blew a 5 run lead in the 8th inning to the Amarillo Dillas as they lost by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday night at Veterans Field. The Broncos continue on their 6 game home stand with the finale of a 3 game series against the Amarillo Dillas on Thursday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Broncos jumped out to the lead in the 1st inning. Sean Gamble drew a walk and then scored on a 2 run home run by Ivan Reyes, his 12th of the season. Dwayne White and Edgard Clemente then drew back to back walks, and moved up to 2nd and 3rd on a groundout. Arnoldo Ponce then drove in White with a groundout to make the score 3-0.

The Broncos would add on a run in the 2nd. Josue Gonzalez led off with a double and went to 3rd on a groundout. Sean Gamble then singled in Gonzalez to make the score 4-0.

Gregorio Martinez was lights out thru his first 5 innings. He allowed only 2 base runners to reach. Both were singles by Josh Ashton and Jonathan Reynoso in the 3rd. Martinez walked no one and had struck out 4.

The Broncos would add on to their lead in the 5th inning. Matt Imwalle doubled to lead off the inning. With 2 outs Josue Gonzalez hit a single into right field. Imwalle was waved home and the throw was on the money. Imwalle slammed into the Dillas catcher Brian Bueno at the plate, but home plate umpire Kate Sargeant ruled Imwalle safe to give the Broncos a 5 run lead.

Amarillo would finally crack the scoreboard in the 8th inning. Stephen Douglas reached base on an error and with 1 away went to 2nd on a single by Josh Ashton. Jonathan Reynoso would follow with a walk to load the bases. Keith Brachold would then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Douglas from 3rd. Sam Mclain would follow with a walk to re-load the bases. Danny Bravo then hit a 2 run double scoring Ashton and Reynoso, and moving Mclain to 3rd. AJ Johnson would then be hit by a pitch to load the bases for the 3rd time in the inning. That would do it for Gregorio Martinez as David Wasylak came in to try to get out of the jam. Andrew Wong would walk to force in a run. Stephen Douglas followed with a 2 run single scoring Bravo and Johnson. That would give the Dillas a 6-5 lead.

Despite a great performance Gregorio Martinez he was in line for the loss after his 7 2/3 of an inning. He gave up 6 runs all unearned on 6 hits. He walked only 2 batters and struck out 8. Taylor Allen now was in line for the win after his 7 innings of work. He gave up 5 runs on 8 hits. He walked 6 and struck out 3.

David Wasylak would come out and pitch the 9th inning as well. He would pitch a scoreless inning as the Broncos trailed by 1 in the 9th. They would have to comeback against the Dillas closer Ralph Roberts.

Dwayne White would lead off the inning with a single. The next batter Edgard Clemente would strike out for the first out. Matt Imwalle would follow with a strike out of his own. Arnoldo Ponce would ground out to end the inning as the Broncos lose a heartbreaker 6-5.

The Broncos scored 5 runs on 9 hits and committed 2 errors, while the Dillas scored 6 runs on 7 hits and committed 1 error.

The Broncos now fall to 36-44 on the season. Laredo is now 2 games back of final playoff spot as Edinburg beat Alexandria as well. The Broncos will be back in action on Thursday when they play game 3 of a 3 game series against the Amarillo Dillas in Laredo at 7:35.
