
Broncos Drop Another Close One in Loss to Alexandria

Laredo, TX - The Laredo Broncos offense is still struggling to score runs as they lost to the Alexandria Aces by a score of 5-3 at Veterans Field on Saturday night. The Broncos continue their 7 game home stand with the 4th game of a 4 game series against the Aces on Sunday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Aces got on the scoreboard first in the 3rd inning. With 2 outs, Luis Guance doubled and then scored on a double by Selwyn Langaigne which made the score 1-0.
The Broncos would answer the run in their half of the 3rd. With 1 out Steven Wright walked and then went to 3rd on a single by Anthony Bennett. Arnoldo Ponce would follow with a sacrifice fly scoring Wright and tying the game at 1.
Laredo would grab the lead in the 5th inning. With 1 out Steven Wright smacked a solo home run, his 5th of the season. That would make the score 2-1 in favor of the Broncos.
Alexandria would strike back in the 6th inning when Broncos starter Richard Bartlett lost his command. With 1 out, Selwyn Langaigne walked. Then with 2 away, Rafael Ozuna and Andre Marshall walked to load the bases. Madison Edwards would deliver a 2 run single scoring both Langainge and Ozuna to give the Aces the 3-2 lead.
Richard Bartlett would run into some trouble in the 7th inning. Jose Umbria singled to start off the inning. Bryan Sabatella tried to bunt him over, but the bunt went right to Bartlett who threw to 2nd to get the lead runner. He would then walk Guance to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Bartlett would be taken out of the game for reliever Dan Sausville. The first man he faced was Selwyn Langaigne, and he hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning and keeping the score 3-2.
Bartlett would end up pitching 6 1/3 innings for the Broncos. He gave up 3 runs, on 6 hits, he walked 5, and struck out 6.
The Broncos would threaten to score in their half of the 7th inning. Steven Wright led off the inning with a single and went to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Anthony Bennett. B.J. Litchfield would then strike out Arnoldo Ponce for the 2nd out. The Aces would then bring in Juan Carlos Ovalles who would strike out Luany Sanchez to end the inning and keeping Laredo down by 1 run.
Sausville would stay in the game to start the 8th inning and gave up a lead off single to Palmer Karr Jr. Then Rafael Ozuna tripled to knock in Karr Jr. With a 2-0 count and Andre Marshall at the plate, Sausville had to leave the game due to an injury, so David Wasylak came in. Wasylak would end up walking Marhsall. With Madison Edwards batting, Wasylak threw a wild pitch, but Luany Sanchez threw out Ozuna trying to score. Marshall would go to 2nd on the play. Edwards and Homy Ovalles would walk to load the bases. Jose Umbria would help out the Broncos and hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. The score was now 4-2 in favor of the Aces.
The Broncos would get 1 run closer in the 8th inning. With 1 out, Dwayne White walked. He then went to 2nd on a single by Ben Tinius. Ivan Reyes then delivered a rbi single scoring White and moving Tinius to 3rd. Reyes would also go to 2nd base on the throw in to the catcher. Juan Carlos Ovalles would then get Johnny Lopez to strike out. Steven Wright then hit a deep fly ball to left field that was caught at the wall to end the inning. That would make the score 4-3.
In the top of the 9th inning, Bryan Sabatella led off with a walk and then went to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Luis Guance. Then with 2 outs Palmer Karr Jr. hit a ball towards right field. Ivan Reyes would get to the ball, but bobbled it which allowed Sabatella to score on a close play. That ended up making the Broncos trail by 2 heading into the 9th against Aces closer Wayne Hedden.
Anthony Bennett would start off the 9th inning with a single. Arnoldo Ponce would pop out for the 1st out, and that was followed by a Luany Sanchez strikeout. Edgard Clemente would then hit into a fielder's choice to end the game, as the Broncos fell by a score of 5-3.
The Broncos scored 3 runs on 9 hits and committed 1 error, while the Aces scored 5 runs on 10 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos now fall to 29-33 on the season and only have a 1 game lead for the last playoff spot as Edinburg won as well.. The Broncos will be back in action on Sunday when they play game 4 of a 4 game series against the Aces at 7:35 at Veterans Field.
