Brockton's Pitching Superb Against League's Best

June 21, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Brockton Rox News Release

The Rox jumped out to an early lead against the Silver Knights and never looked back. A three run 1st inning blew the door open and was enough to secure a win for the Rox.

In the 1st inning, Brockton struck early. A leadoff triple from Dillon Cooper put the Rox in prime position for a big inning. The next batter, Chase Smartt, had an RBI single to give the Rox a slim 1-0 lead. Against the league's best team, the league's best hitter, Eric Feliz, hit a towering fly ball to deep center field that hit the batter's eye for a 400+ foot 2-run home run that gave the Rox a 3-0 lead.

That would be the only offensive insurance that the Rox needed. Brockton's pitching was superb. Eric Keating started the game, going 5 innings while only allowing 3 hits and one run, one that was unearned. In his last inning, he struck out the side to wrap up a terrific performance.

The Rox got a collective pitching effort the next 4 innings as Dan Rajowski, Bryce Verplank and Ethan Lichtenberg finished the game without allowing a run.

Brockton would score twice more as Chase Smartt scored and knocked in an RBI to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Brockton looked like the better team Tuesday night even though the standings say otherwise. The Rox (9-9) will play consecutive road games the next two days, first against the Navigators (4-12) and then a rematch against the Silver Knights (12-4). The Rox return to Campanelli Stadium Friday against the Seacoast Mavericks. First pitch is at 7:05 at Campanelli Stadium. Come and enjoy Fireworks after the ballgame!
