Brockton Rox News Release
BROCKTON, MA - March 26, 2004 - The Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League announced today that Naval Academy assistant baseball coach Bryan Stark will be the team's Field Manager for the 2014 season.
Stark is a 2010 graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego. A centerfielder during his playing days, Stark captained the SUNY-Oswego Lakers during his junior and senior years and earned all-conference honors. The Rochester, New York native gained his first managerial experience - and national media coverage - as a college sophomore in 2008. During the 9th inning of a play-in game for the Eastern College Athletic Conference postseason tournament, Oswego's manager was struck in the head and nearly killed by a foul ball while coaching third base. The team had no assistant coach available at the time. Stark assumed control of the team and led the Lakers to the 2008 ECAC tournament championship. It was only the third ECAC tournament win in the school's history.
Since graduating in 2010, Stark has served as an Assistant at his alma mater, at the University of Rochester and, since 2012, at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. Chris English, the owner of the Rox said: "We are delighted that Bryan has accepted our offer to manage the Rox. After interviewing over a dozen candidates Bryan was an obvious choice. He brings a unique combination of baseball knowledge, energy, leadership and willingness to innovate, qualities that are a big part of the Rox culture.
"Coach Starks said, " The Brockton Rox have a storied baseball history. I am thrilled that Chris has given me this opportunity to add a new chapter. It's a great organization from top to bottom and I'm very enthusiastic to work with this year's team of outstanding collegiate ballplayers. I am also excited at the opportunity to get into the local community and continue to make the Rox a club that the City of Champions can be proud of."
The Brockton Rox are members of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). The Rox open their 13th season of baseball at Campanelli Stadium on June 4th, 2014. The 2014 FCBL All-Star Game comes to Brockton on Thursday, July 24th . Season tickets and 6-game Mini-Plans are on sale new for the 2014 season. Visit www.brocktonrox.com for more information.
