Brière Sparks Tomahawks to 5-4 Comeback Win

PITTSTON, Pa. - A third-period comeback sparked the Johnstown Tomahawks to a 5-4 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights Friday night.

Midway through the first period, the Knights solved Tomahawks goalie Cooper Lukenda on the power play with a goal from Gabe Temple.

Just over two minutes later, the Tomahawks tied the game at 1-1 when Roman Kraemer scored his first goal of the season. Sam Solensky and Joey Kile assisted on the goal.

Before the period was over, WB/Scranton regained the lead 2-1 after Beck Moore scored his first goal of the season.

In the second period, the Knights increased their lead to 3-1 when Jacob Badal deflected a Evan Orr point shot past Lukenda.

Just ten seconds later, Tomahawks forward Cameron Hebert put Johnstown within one goal with his sixth of the season that beat Knights goalie Samuel Vyletelka for a 3-2 Knights lead.

However, the Knights added another goal with one second left in the period. Adrian Danchenko was credited with the goal on the power play.

The Tomahawks would mount a furious third period comeback starting midway through the frame.

Forward Carson Brière cut the Knghts lead to 4-3 with his 10th goal of the season. Pavel Kharin and Mitch Hale picked up the assists.

The Tomahawks tied the game over one minute later when Solensky's shot beat Vyletelka five-hole on the power play.

Brière would give the Tomahawks the 5-4 lead at the 13:02 mark of the third period, also with the man advantage. Oliver Benwell assisted on Brière's second of the night and 11th of the season.

Johnstown is back on home ice on Friday, Nov. 9 for the start of Military Appreciation Weekend against the Maryland Black Bears. All active duty and veterans may receive a free ticket at the gate with presentation of a valid Military ID.
