Kansas City Brigade News Release
KANSAS CITY-A back-and-forth game in Kemper Arena on Saturday night was not over until the last play, but the outcome came down to only one possession. The Kansas City Brigade and Georgia Force traded touchdowns until midway through the third quarter when the Brigade turned the ball over on downs. The Force scored a touchdown on its ensuing drive and Kansas City could not regain the lead in a 55-47 defeat in front of 16,032 fans at Kemper Arena.
The Force put up an insurance touchdown with 3:25 left in the game as Georgia OS Chris Jackson got open and scored on a 23-yard pass from Matt Nagy. A made extra point would have put the game out of reach, but Nelson Garner missed his first one of the game to leave the lead eight.
A touchback on the kickoff meant the Brigade had to work from deep in its own end. Kansas City got into some trouble after the one minute warning as Chris Sanders was sacked for a seven-yard loss on second down. A third-down completion to newcomer Aaron Boone was short, but on fourth down the Force was offside. A second chance produced a first down on a three-yard pass from Chris Sanders to Jerel Myers.
Two plays later Sanders found Myers, who caught 12 passes for 113 yards, deep over the middle and the Brigade, out of timeouts, could not stop the clock before it expired. However, the play was called back by penalty leaving Kansas City with one last chance. Sanders dropped back with three seconds left and heaved the ball towards the net. It was tipped by a Force defender and Myers dove for it but could not maintain possession.
The Brigade started the game on a tear, scoring on four of its five first-half possessions. Boone did the damage with two first-half touchdown catches and finished with 11 catches for 129 yards. Sanders spread the ball around, hitting Jordan and Myers for touchdowns. He also scored three rushing touchdowns, accounting for all seven of Kansas City's scores.
