Kansas City Brigade News Release

The Kansas City Brigade confirmed today its intentions to immediately build a playoff contender with a trade for defensive specialist Kenny McEntyre. The nine-year veteran-a two-sport athlete at Kansas State-has spent his entire Arena Football League career with the Orlando Predators, setting a slew of records on his way to becoming arguably the best defender in the league. Nicknamed "the Glove" for his reputation as an in-your-face defender, McEntyre owns three ADT Defensive Player of the Year awards (2000-01, 2004), was named first team All-Arena six times (2000-2005), and holds the AFL record for career regular season interceptions (63).

"I really am excited to come to Kansas City," McEntyre said. "When the Brigade was formed last year I always thought about what it would be like to play there. It's fitting because it feels like home since I played at K-State. I know the team has a wealth of talent and fans are behind it, so I'm ready to get to Kansas City and get this thing going."

McEntyre agreed to a multiyear deal with the Brigade after he and Orlando could not compromise on a restructured contract. Orlando will receive future considerations as compensation for losing McEntyre, but no other players are involved in the deal. The signing of a big-name player like McEntyre signals that the Brigade plans to be a force on the free agent market as the team continues to build around its young, talented core with skilled veterans.

"This is a huge addition for us because Kenny is exactly the kind of player we need in Kansas City to build a winner," said head coach Kevin Porter, who tutored McEntyre as the defensive backs coach in Orlando in 1999. "He is a playmaker who is capable of shutting down one side of the field, and he is a veteran with playoff experience who can mentor our young guys. We are very excited to bring Kenny here and see what he can do for the Brigade."
