Brigade makes change at kicker, signs veteran Kral

Kansas City Brigade News Release
KANSAS CITY - In search of consistency from his kicker, Brigade head coach Kevin Porter made a major midseason decision about position. The team on Friday released Clay Rush in favor of Gary Kral (6-0, 182, Pittsburg State), a five-year Arena Football League veteran who started 2007 with the Arizona Rattlers. He will be uniform for tonight's game against the Utah Blaze at 7 p.m. at Kemper Arena.
The off-season free agent signing of Rush, one of the best kickers in the AFL, was supposed to stabilize the position for the next few seasons. However, the numbers never materialized. Rush had tallied 56 points on 2-of-8 field goals and 50-of-64 extra points.
Kral, a resident of the Kansas City suburb of Olathe, Kan., was himself released by the Rattlers prior to Week 10. He had converted 4-of-10 field goals and 54-of-68 extra points. In Arizona's 62-61 overtime loss at the Brigade on March 30, Kral connected on 5-of-7 extra points and did not attempt a field goal.
In Kral's first full season with the Rattlers in 2006, he hit 10-of-28 field goals and 88-of-103 extra points to total 118 points, third on the team. He joined the Rattlers in 2005 in a midseason move from the Nashville Kats. He previously played for the New York Dragons in 2004 and the new-defunct Buffalo Destroyers in 2003. For his career, Kral is 28-for-90 on field goals and 316-for-378 on extra points, totaling 400 career points.
A native of Maize, Kan., Kral began his collegiate career at Butler County Community College. He transferred to Pittsburg State and played three seasons (1998-2000), earning First Team All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association honors as a senior. At one point as a junior he converted 44-straight extra points and in his senior year he hit a 51-yard game-winning field goal against Central Missouri State.
