Kansas City Brigade News Release
Kansas City, MO - Backup quarterback Russ Michna was forced into duty as Chicago's normal starter Sherdrick Bonner had to watch from the sidelines with an aching knee. Michna filled in for the 14 year veteran Bonner and lead the Chicago Rush (5-2) to a close 49-42 win over Kansas City (0-6). Michna found wide receiver Travis LaTendresse in the end zone with six seconds remaining in the forth quarter to break a 42-42 tie.
Chicago jumped out to an early 14-0 lead thanks to two touchdown passes from QB Russ Michna. Michna finished the night 20-28 with one interception and 213 passing yards. Michna, who started his second game of the season, threw for four touchdowns and ran for one more score. Travis LaTendresse led the way for Chicago with seven catches for 68 yards and two scores. LaTendresse beat Brigade DB Robb Butler for the 15 yard winning touchdown. The Rush would add two touchdowns on the ground.
The Brigade welcomed ESPN into Sprint Center where 13,184 fans were hoping to see the first win of the season. D. Bryant was 22-37 with two interceptions in his second AFL start. Bryant threw for a total of 211 yards and four touchdowns. Bryant spread the football around as four different players found the end zone. The seven point loss was the fifth one possession loss of the 2008 season.
The Brigade were able to pull even at 42 when FB Dawan Moss ran eight yards into the end zone. The drive was set up by DL Gillis Wilson blocking the Chicago field goal attempt on the previous Chicago possession. After the Moss touchdown, Michna and the Rush were able to run down the clock before scoring the go ahead touchdown. Bryant and the Brigade offense were given the ball with six seconds to go. Bryant's last pass was intercepted in the end zone by DB James Sadler.
The Brigade turn their attention to the Colorado Crush (3-3) who come to Kansas City for a Saturday match up. Kansas City is 0-4 all time against the Crush. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Chicago hosts Grand Rapids on Sunday the 20th.
