Keene Swamp Bats News Release

Keene ran in to a hot start tonight from Brigade pitcher Chris Williams, who held the Swamp Bats lineup in check.

Sam Triece got the start for Keene, his first of the season, and pitched well through four innings before running into trouble in the fifth. Saratoga got back to back one out singles to get runners, then a wild pitch allowed Brian Taylor to score, giving Brigade the 1-0 lead.

Two batters later Will Thompson knocked into two runs with a single in to leftfield. The hit gave the Brigade the 3-0 lead and that's all Williams would need.

Williams was perfect through five innings before Steve Swingle, Grand Canyon University, broke it up with an infield single. After an error allowing Swingle to move up, a ground ball off of the bat of Robbie Cafiero of Hofstra went off of the glove of Thompson, and Swingle came into cut the deficit to two runs.

Joe McCarthy was good in relief of Triece, not allowing a run through three and a third innings pitched.

Keene got three straight hits to start the eighth before Dylan Moore grounded into a double play that allowed Jonathan Scott to score to make it a 3-2 ball game. Then with two on and two out Eric Gutierrez struck out to end the Keene threat.

Swamp Bats went down 1-2-3 in the ninth, giving Hunter Abbe his third save of the season.

Keene drops to 26-17 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow at home versus Holyoke. First pitch at Alumni Field is set for 6:30p.m.
