Kansas City Brigade News Release

Kansas City, MO - Wide receiver Mike Horacek led the way for the Brigade with two touchdowns and 115 receiving yards. Kansas City (1-6) defeated the Colorado Crush (3-4) 55-53 in front of 14,057 fans inside Sprint Center. The Kansas City win was their first of the 2008 season and their first ever against Colorado.

Will Holder ignited the crowd with a sensational 54 yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 5:21 left in the first quarter. Holder's touchdown was the first special teams touchdown of the year and it gave Kansas City a 14-13 lead. Holder's return set the tone for the game.

Brigade rookie quarterback D. Bryant played well in his third start. Bryant took turns finding the open receiver and threw a total of four touchdowns to three different receivers. Bryant and fullback Dawan Moss added one rushing touchdown a piece. On the night Bryant finished 16 of 28 for 235 yards. He threw four touchdowns to only one interception.

Colorado quarterback John Dutton was bothered early and often by a pesky Brigade defense. Kansas City forced Dutton to throw two interceptions, none bigger then when defensive back Robb Butler wrestled the ball away from Willie Quinnie in the end zone on the final play of the first half.

With time winding down and Colorado trailing 48-47 the Crush decided to go for it on fourth and goal from the Kansas City one yard line. OL/DL Jamarr Ward, who started the game on offense, came up with the play of the game by swallowing up wide receiver Chad Owens on the goal line. On the next possession Kansas City would add a 47 yard touchdown to Mike Horacek to go up 55-47.

With the fourth quarter coming to a close Colorado receiver John Dutton connected with Ben Nelson for a 17 yard touchdown bringing the game within two points. Nelson was denied by defensive back Jerald Brown on the two point conversion try. Kansas City would run out the clock on their next possession and win 55-53.

Kansas City (1-6) travels to Grand Rapids (2-4) looking for revenge after losing to the Rampage in Kansas City. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday April 25th. Colorado (3-4) hosts the Central Division leading Chicago Rush (5-2) on Friday April 25th.
