Bridgeport sets franchise record with win

Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish (43-19, 79-53) set a franchise-record by earning their 79th victory of the season. Bridgeport passes both the 1999 and 2000 squads who picked up 78 wins. Bridgeport defeated the Somerset Patriots (35-27, 71-61) 15-14.

The Bluefish led nine-nothing after five innings and fifteen-eight going into the ninth before the Patriots nearly completed the comeback.

Kevin Mannix (11-5) matched his win total, for his career coming into 2010, by tossing five-and-two-thirds frames and gave up five runs, seven hits, and two walks. Jorge Julio picked up his 28th save with a strikeout of Jeff Nettles to end the game.

Josh Miller (12-9) suffered the loss as he lasted three-and-a-third frames and allowed eight earned runs, ten hits, and two walks.

Victor Mercedes was four-for-six in the contest with a solo shot to right and five RBI. The third baseman also earned a double. Josh Phelps was three-for four in his official plate appearances, with three runs and two batted in. Danny Putnam served his tenth homer of the season with a three-run jolt to right. Tike Redman produced two hits in five at-bats while scoring twice and driving in one. Brandon Chaves collected two hits, two runs, and an RBI in four official at-bats.

Game three of the playoffs is slated to take place, at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, on Friday, September 24. If necessary, there will be a game four on Saturday, September 25. All postseason matchups include a 7:05 first pitch with the gates opening at 6:05.

The Bluefish continue a three-game series with the Somerset Patriots on Saturday Night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM while the gates open at 5:05.
