
Bridgeport Defeated by Sugar Land

(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 2, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (27-37) lost the teams' second consecutive contest as the home team was defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters (27-37) by a score of 8-4 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday.
Sugar Land scored in the first five innings. The Skeeters pushed across six runs on seven hits and three walks during that stretch while helped by five Bluefish errors. Octavio Martinez had four hits on the night and Jason Lane contributed three hits. Seven different runners scored on Monday while five different hitters drove in runs. Martinez had two RBI in the victory.
In a three-run seventh, James Simmons had an RBI triple while Angel Flores and Elliott Ayala picked up RBI in the frame; but with runners at the corners, Eddie Rogers struck out to end the threat. Ayala was the only member of the home team to have a multiple hit night while Brock Peterson snapped his eight game hitting streak after pinch running for Luis Lopez.
Bridgeport starter, Chris Hayes (0-1), suffered the loss as the righthanded hurler delivered three innings and gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out one. Matt Pike followed in relief. The righthanded hurler gave up one unearned run on two hits and fanned four in three frames. Raymar Diaz tossed two scoreless innings and surrendered one hit. Diaz struck out two Sugar Land hitters. The Skeeters scored two runs on two hits and two walks against Kyle Zaleski in the ninth.
Sugar Land hurler, Bobby Livingston (8-2), earned the victory as he worked seven innings. Bridgeport produced four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out six times against the starting pitcher. Sean Morgan and Gary Majewski combined for the final scoreless frames.
Bridgeport returns to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard for a clash against the Sugar Land Skeeters on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Bridgeport will send lefthanded pitcher, Dan Serafini (1-0, 1.42 ERA), to the hill against lefthanded hurler heath Phillips (1-4, 3.89 ERA). There is going to be a Fireworks Extravaganza on Tuesday following the conclusion of the ballgame. The event is presented by Fairfield County Bank.
