 Bakersfield Jam News Release
(Dallas, Texas - February 13, 2010) - Bakersfield Jam forward Brian Butch has been named the MVP of the NBA D-League All-Star game after leading the West team to a 98-81 victory over the favored West stars.
After getting the late call to participate in the game - replacing Anthony Tolliver after his call-up to Golden State - Butch put on a shooting display, leading his team with 18 points on 7-for-12 field goal shooting, including 2-for-4 from long range. He also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, an impressive eight of which came on the offensive boards.
Butch's big All-Star afternoon comes on the heels of a busy Friday night at the NBA D-League Dream Factory presented by Haier. The night began early for the Bakersfield big man, as LA D-Fender Dar Tucker used him as a prop in the Dunk Contest Finals, jumping clean over the 6'11" Butch for a thunderous, title-winning windmill slam.
Participating in the Haier Shooting Stars competition, Butch and teammates Desmon Farmer and Donell Taylor advanced to the second and final round, but were knocked off by Carlos Powell, Pat Carroll and Trey Gilder who had set a competition record with a first-round time of 15.6 seconds. Bakersfield's other Dream Factory participant, sharpshooter Blake Ahearn, scored a first-round-high 20 points to open the Three-Point Shootout but fell to Andre Ingram in the finals by a score of 39-37.
The Jam returns to action on Friday, February 19, 2010 when Malik Hairston and the streaking Austin Toros make their first visit to the Jam Events Center.
