Brent Headrick Promoted to Wichita

Cedar Rapids, IA - Cedar Rapids lefthander Brent Headrick has been promoted to the Wichita Wind Surge. In a corresponding move, righthanded pitcher Tyler Palm has been transferred to Cedar Rapids from Wichita. The Kernels active roster now stands at 29 players.

Headrick has enjoyed a breakout 2022 season, leading the Midwest League in wins at the time of his promotion. The Braidwood, Illinois native has gone 8-2 with a 2.34 ERA across 15 starts, striking out 77 with just 13 walks over 65.1 innings of work. He has held opponents to a .188 batting average while working to a 0.89 WHIP. Cedar Rapids has won 12 of his 15 starts, including 11 of his last 12 outings. Originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the ninth round of the 2019 MLB Amateur Draft out of Illinois State, Headrick earned Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-MVC honors as he led the Redbirds to an NCAA Regional appearance as a junior.

Palm took the ball once for the Wind Surge, striking out a pair in a 1-2-3 seventh inning on July 17 against the Arkansas Travelers. Over his last eight appearances out of the Kernels bullpen, Palm worked 12.2 innings to a 0.71 ERA (1 ER) while allowing just nine hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts. The righthander owns a 3.48 ERA across 22 appearances this season, recording four holds and finishing 10 games.
