Rockford Aviators News Release
LOVES PARK, IL - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, have re-signed catcher Ryan Breen and right-handed pitcher Kyle Hassna to a contract extension through the 2015 season.
Last season, Breen found himself among the top in the league in batting average reaching as high as .337 during the middle of the season. He finished the year with a .283 average, four home runs and 21 RBIs.
"I was really happy with how Ryan progressed the last half of the season," said Aviators Manager James Frisbie. "He earned the number one catcher spot and ended up hitting the ball better than we, or even he, thought he would and we're lucky to have him back."
Hassna joined the Aviators after impressing the coaching staff during the post MLB Draft tryout at Aviators Stadium and quickly worked his way out of the bullpen and into the starting rotation. Hassna didn't always get the run support he needed, but still posted a 2-4 record with a 3.09 ERA.
"Kyle is going to get a look in the top five of the rotation and will be productive again this year for us," said Frisbie.
Along with the extensions of Breen and Hassna, the Aviators have also traded All-Star closer, Gerardo Sanchez, to the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association to complete the trade for Kyle Allen.
"I wanted to give Gerardo the opportunity he deserves to make more money and to play at a higher level," said Frisbie. "He absolutely earned the chance to advance his career and we were lucky to have him this year. I wish him the best and I know he will do great."
Sanchez was named to the 2014 Frontier League All-Star Team and finished the year with an 0-3 record while posting a 1.53 ERA and earning eighteen saves in twenty opportunities.
