
Breakers Midfielder Suzane Pires Named to Portugal Women's National Team to Face Ireland

HANOVER, Mass. (Oct. 13, 2015) - Portugal Women's National Team Coach Francisco Neto has called in Breakers midfielder Suzane Pires for an upcoming UEFA Women's EURO 2017 qualifying match against the Republic of Ireland. This marks Pires' first call-up to Portugal.
The 23-year-old Sao Paulo, Brazil native recently completed her rookie season for the Breakers. She started six of the 12 games she appeared in, logging 447 minutes. Pires registered one assist on the season. It came on Aug. 1 at home in a 2-1 loss to Seattle Reign FC. She assisted on Kristie Mewis' game-tying goal in the 34th minute to earn her first professional point.
Pires and Portugal will play Ireland on Oct. 27 at Estádio Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas in Moreira de Cónegos, Portugal. It will be the team's first match of the EURO 2017 qualifers. Portugal is in Group 2 along with Ireland, Spain, Montenegro, and Finland. Pires will join Portugal Oct. 19 when their camp begins in Porto.
A 2014 graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, Pires led the Owls in scoring as both a junior and senior and finished her college career with 25 goals and 13 assists.
In the summer of 2014, Pires played for the Boston Breakers Reserves team in the Women's Premier Soccer League.
