Breakers Look for a Win in Their Final Game against KC

The Boston Breakers head to Kansas City, Missouri to challenge the FC Kansas City to a rematch on Wednesday in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. EST. This is the second to last away game for the Breakers this season.

FC Kansas City and the Breakers have met twice this season with Kansas City taking home both wins. The Breakers remain in last place with a record of 4-14-2 while FC Kansas City is in second with a record of 11-6-5.

In the last meeting between the two, the Breakers came up short against the FCKC, who took home a 2-0 win. Lauren Holiday, former Breakers midfielder and current FCKC player, delivered both shots to the back of goalkeeper, Alyssa Naeher's net during penalty kicks. While the Breakers players, Kristie Mewis, Lisa De Vanna as well as Lianne Sanderson made their best attempts at scoring, they were unsuccessful in doing so. Unfortunately for the Breakers, this loss secured the Blues third shut out of the season and gave the Breakers their second straight loss.

During the Breakers game on this past Sunday, Naeher was an incredible asset to the team. Not only did she prevent multiple scoring opportunities with her seven saves but she was able to stop a penalty kick keeping the game close. Naeher has held her number one spot with saves at 85 this season. FC Kansas City keeper, Nicole Barnhart made six saves in their last game and is currently third in saves with 70.

Mewis, scoring her first and second goals of the season was a key player in the Breakers last game as well. Holiday, FCKC forward, has scored eight goals this season and holds the number seventh spot for goals in the league. While the Boston Breakers are not eligible for the play offs this season, FCKC are currently in second place in the league standings bringing them to the playoffs.

Breakers fans can follow the action on Wednesdays away game at Durwood Stadium from the live stream on YouTube (7:00 p.m. EST kickoff). The Breakers return to Harvard Stadium Sunday August 10th for the last match against the Portland Thorns FC (6:30 p.m. EST kickoff).
