August 5, 2014 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release
CHICAGO (Aug. 5, 2014) - Portland Thorns FC midfielder Veronica Boquete has been voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 17 of the 2014 NWSL season.
It is the third time Boquete, 27, has won the award since making her NWSL debut on June 7. She was also voted Player of the Week for a one-goal performance in Week 10 and a two-goal, two-assist performance in Week 14.
The Santiago de Compostela, Spain native scored the winning goal in the Thorns' 1-0 victory Sunday over the Houston Dash, a game that set a NWSL attendance record of 19,123. It was the Spanish captain's sixth consecutive home match tallying a point.
Boquete registered the goal in the 54th minute of the match after Thorns FC defender Stephanie Catley played a perfect cross from the left side to Boquete's right foot. Boquete finished the cross with one-touch into the bottom corner of the goal, earning her fourth goal of the season. (Goal - b20d7739386c057897689386d Watch highlights )

Portland Thorns FC will return to action Sunday, August 10, at 6:30 p.m. ET against the Boston Breakers at Harvard Stadium in Boston, Mass.
The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
