Brazos Valley Bombers Add Two from Michigan State

Bryan/College Station, Texas - The Brazos Valley Bombers are excited to announce the addition of Jesse Heikkinen and Zach Iverson to the 2018 Brazos Valley Bombers roster.

Jesse Heikkinen is a Freshman Pitcher for Michigan State University who joined the Spartans this year after turning down the Detroit Tigers who drafted him in the 2017 MLB Draft out of Holt High School. This season, Heikkinen has pitched well in limited outings, holding opposing batters to a .233 average on the year. As a high school pitcher, Heikkinen was one of the most successful in program history, being a part of a senior class that won a school record 60 victories their last two seasons and helped win the school's first regional title. Heikkinen had a strong senior season with a 8-1 record, .97 ERA and school record 90 strikeouts in a year that was cut short due to an elbow strain.

Zach Iverson is another Spartan Freshman who is making an immediate impact for Michigan State as a utility player. Iverson has started 24 games for Michigan State in the field and made an additional two appearances on the mound. This season, he has not allowed a run to score on the mound, while striking out a batter an inning pitched. At the plate, Iverson has also has made an impact, registering 25 hits, 15 runs scored, and having 8 extra base hits. As a high school player, Iverson was successful, setting the single season record for RBIs and saves, while also setting a career record for saves on his way to being named first team all-state in North Carolina by USA Today.
