Bravehearts drop matinee to Navigators
June 7, 2015 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Worcester Bravehearts News Release
LYNN -- The Bravehearts' pitching staff has allowed over 10 runs for the second consecutive game, most recently in a 10-3 loss to the North Shore Navigators on June 7 at Fraser Field in Lynn.
The Navigators, who were previously winless, exploded for five runs in the third inning despite falling behind 3-1 after two innings. Bravehearts pitcher Clayton Dostal (Galveston College / Richmond, Texas) hit two batters in the third inning and with the bases loaded gave up an RBI single to Chad Martin (Bowdoin College / Rowley). But Worcester left fielder Logan Brown (Slippery Rock University / Leechburg, Pennsylvania) misplayed the ball and allowed another run to score to tie the game at 3-3.
Dylan Collett (Saint Leo / Altamont, New York) took over for Dostal, but the Navigators loaded the bases again, and catcher Ricky Smith (Merrimack College / Weymouth) uncorked a 3-RBI triple to give his team a 6-3 lead after three innings. However, Dostal took the loss after being charged with five runs with three of them three earned.
The Bravehearts drew 12 walks but could only collect three runs on five hits. Leadoff hitter and center fielder Adam De La Cruz (Cochise College / Bronx, New York) drew three of those walks, and designated hitter Alex Sanchez (Galveston College / New York, New York) went 2-3 with two RBI and two walks. Sanchez currently leads Worcester with a .364 average at the plate.
North Shore pitcher Steve Xirinachs (UMass Lowell / San Diego, California) tossed 4.1 innings in relief, and collected the win after striking out five and allowing only one hit.
The Bravehearts return home to face the Brockton Rox for Baseball in Education Day at 11:05 a.m. June 9 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Tickets to all future Bravehearts games are available at the Hanover Insurance Park box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com or by calling 508-438-3773.
