Worcester Bravehearts News Release

BROCKTON, Mass. - The Worcester Bravehearts couldn't take advantage of five Brockton Rox errors, as the visitors dropped their second straight contest 6-4 at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass.

The top five batters in the Bravehearts' order combined for all six of the team's hits. Third baseman Mark DeYoung led off the scoring with a 2-run home run in the first inning. Starting catcher Connor David went 3-5 in the second spot and scored in the third inning on a wild pitch from Rox starter Simon Mathews.

Neither Mathews nor Worcester starter Tyrone Miller recorded a decision, as both pitchers threw four innings and allowed three runs. Brockton reliever Trent Berg was more effective, as the left hander got his first win of the year going four innings, allowing only one run and striking out seven. Holy Cross sophomore Brendan King got the save in the ninth inning despite dealing with runners on first and second base.

Brockton's pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts in the game.

The Rox scored a run in the first and tied the game in the third on a 2-run shot by shortstop Zach Short. The Sacred Heart University sophomore finished 2-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Brockton pulled ahead in the sixth inning on an RBI single by third baseman Max Ponzurick and a 2RBI double by left fielder Tom Marcinczyk.

Worcester reliever Chris Dious took the loss after pitching two innings and allowing all three Brockton runs to score in the sixth inning.

The Bravehearts (20-15) will return home for Military Appreciation Night, as they face the Torrington Titans at 7:05 p.m. July 18 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. The team will host a free fireworks show after the game.
