
Bravehearts complete doubleheader sweep of Navigators

WORCESTER, Mass. - With two wins against the North Shore Navigators on July 20 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field, the Worcester Bravehearts have catapulted themselves back into first place.
Worcester won the first half of the twin set in extra innings 4-3. In the bottom of the 10th inning, center fielder Ian Strom stole third base, and catcher Joe Coyne threw the ball into left field to allow Strom to score the winning run.
Worcester trailed 3-0 after coughing up three runs on four errors - all with two outs in the inning. But the home team rallied in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 3-3.
Designated hitter Brady Burns, third baseman Tyler McVicar and right fielder Nate Pajka all recorded RBI singles.
The Bravehearts combined for 12 hits in the winning effort.
Holy Cross junior and Bravehearts pitcher Sean Gustin collected his third win of the season after pitching two innings of scoreless relief and allowing only one hit.
North Shore reliever Rob DiFranco was charged with his first loss of the season despite tossing 3.1 innings in relief.
In the second matchup, the Bravehearts collected a 5-1 win to complete the sweep of the Navigators.
Though they gave up the first run again, the Bravehearts tallied three runs in the fourth inning to capture the victory. Shortstop Andy Lack hit a 2 RBI single up the middle, and Assumption College catcher Thomas Paine knocked in Lack with an RBI single of his own.
Third baseman Mark DeYoung gave the Bravehearts the eventual winning run with an RBI double to score Strom in the third inning.
Worcester starter Josh Desai got the win after giving up only four hits and striking out four in six innings of work. Sam Ross only needed seven pitches to close out the game in the seventh inning.
The Bravehearts will take on the Seacoast Mavericks in a make up game from July 5 at 7 p.m. July 21 at Leary Field in Portsmouth, N.H.
