Shrewsbury Native, PJ Browne Excels vs Seacoast Mavericks

LEOMINSTER, Mass (July 20, 2014). PJ Browne (Merrimack) who hails from Shrewsbury, impressed in his first start as a Wachusett Dirt Dawg. Browne went eight innings, allowed two runs neither of which were earned, striking out one and scattering seven hits. Browne helped the Dirt Dawgs top the Seacoast Mavericks by a 4-2 score.

The Dirt Dawgs only had seven hits in the game but were able to take advantage of four errors by the Mavericks. The offensive stars of the game for the Dirt Dawgs were Richard Fecteau (Salem State) and Austin Botts (Lock Haven). Botts and Fecteau each had two hits and an RBI in the game. Ben White (Holy Cross) earned his second save of the season.

The Mavericks were led by Ryan Gendron (SNHU) who had two doubles in the game and scored a run. Keith Oren (Florida) also had a single and double in the game. Jordan Quinn (North Carolina Central University) pitched five innings allowing three runs, two earned, four hits, and four walks.

Head Coach Kevin Barnaby had positive remarks on his starting pitcher, "PJ did an outstanding job" Barnaby remarked. "Leaving a Legion team and facing college competition for the first time. He was poised, composed and mature on the mound."

Coach Raul Rivera added to the praise. "For a young guy he had good command of his pitches and was very composed on the mound" he commented. "I'm very proud of him."

The Dirt Dawgs have won five of their last seven games. They will travel to face the Nashua Silver Knights on Tuesday July 22nd at 7:05. Connor Johnson (Maine) will make his third start of the season.
