Worcester Bravehearts News Release
OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine - With their lead in the Western Division dwindling, the Worcester Bravehearts took advantage of a matchup with the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide, the team ranked last in the Eastern Division.
Northeastern University sophomore Aaron Civale, Flagler College senior Chris Dious and Holy Cross junior Sean Gustin combined for nine shutout innings on the mound in a 6-0 victory against the Raging Tide on July 8 at The Ball Park in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
Civale got the start and collected his second win of the season after throwing five innings, striking out three and allowing only two hits. Dious and Gustin each threw two shutout innings, as the Raging Tide could only manage one hit off Gustin.
The Bravehearts took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning but got some insurance when Worcester third baseman Nick Nunziato snapped his six-game hitless streak with his fifth home run of the season - a 2-run shot off Old Orchard Beach starter Evan Brisentine. Brisentine finished the rest of the inning, but he dropped to 0-1 despite striking out nine in seven innings pitched.
Worcester padded its lead again in the eighth inning when designated hitter Dylan Harris hit a 2- run home run of his own. Harris finished 3-4 and is currently in the midst of a six-game hitting streak. UConn catcher Connor David capped off the scoring with an RBI single to score left fielder Jordan Berry in the ninth inning.
The Bravehearts will return home to face the Pittsfield Suns at 7:05 p.m. July 9 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. The Suns currently sit two games behind the Bravehearts for the lead in the Western Division.
