Tulsa Drillers News Release

Los Angeles Angels prospect Ryan Brasier has experienced a mostly uneventful career in Minor League Baseball. Prior to this year, the right-handed pitcher has compiled a career 10-10 record in three seasons. Thursday night, at the expense of the Tulsa Drillers, he enjoyed a night that he will not soon forget.

Brasier pitched the first 9-inning, complete game no-hitter in the Texas League since 2002, leading the Arkansas Travelers to a 4-0 defeat of the Tulsa Drillers. Ironically, the last 9-inning, complete game no-hitter in the Texas League involved the same two teams. On May 13, 2002, Arkansas' Hatuey Mendoza no-hit Tulsa at Drillers Stadium.

Brasier was dominating in Thursday's victory, allowing a base runner in only one inning. His only trouble came in the top of the fourth when he walked Daniel Mayora and Jeff Kindel. Mayora was thrown out attempting to steal, while Kindel was stranded when Scott Beerer grounded out to end the inning.

The closest the Drillers came to a hit came in the same inning. Anthony Jackson led off with a sharp grounder to the right side of the infield. The ball deflected off the glove of first baseman Efren Navarro and to second baseman Abel Nieves who threw to Brasier at first to retire Jackson.

The same type of play also retired Kindel in the seventh inning.

Brasier threw 111 pitches in the game, 75 for strikes. The Wichita Falls, Texas native entered the game with a 5.17 ERA, but lowered the mark to 3.28 with the gem.

He took advantage of a struggling Tulsa offense that entered the game with a Texas League low team batting average of .219. The average dropped to .210 with the hitless effort.

Nearing his pitch limit, Brasier had a relatively easy ninth inning. He retired leadoff hitter Matt Repec on a groundball to third. Radames Nazario flied out, and Anthony Jackson grounded out to second to complete the no-hitter.

Arkansas got the only offense it needed in the bottom of the fourth against hard-luck loser Keith Weiser. Andrew Romine singled and scored on a base hit by Paul McAnulty. Julio Perez followed with a triple that gave Brasier and the Travs a 2-0 lead.

The Travelers added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Andy Graham.

The result allowed Arkansas to complete a four-game sweep of Tulsa. The Drillers have now lost seven of their last eight games.

They will look to snap the skid Friday night in the first game of a four-game series with Springfield at Hammons Field. Ching-Lung Lo (0-0, 0.96 ERA) will pitch for the Drillers against Shaun Garceau (0-3, 4.50 ERA) of the Cards. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10PM.
