Orangeville A's News Release
Brampton, ON - Last night at Wegz Stadium Bar [in Vaughn, ON], the National Basketball League of Canada hosted the 2014 NBL Canada Draft. Players from all over the world were in attendance in the hopes of making their professional basketball dreams a reality.
The Brampton A's drafted seventh in each of the three rounds, adding budding talent to this season's roster.
General Manager/ Head Coach David Magley, along with his coaching staff were on the clock in the first round and with the 7th overall pick selected Dylan Brewer out of York College [in Nebraska]. Brewer, a 6'3" PG/SG was named 1st Team All Conference in MCAC (Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference), and averaged 18 ppg, 4 ast and 4 rbs per game while running the point for the panthers.
In the second round, the A's were looking to add more as they selected Yvon Raymond out of Saint Peter's University [in New Jersey], an athletic wing that focuses his game on the defensive end. Raymond, a 6'3" SG averaged 10 ppg 5 rbs 2 ast per game in his 2013 season with the Peacocks.
In the third and final round, the A's went big selecting Rashad Chase out of Georgia State University with the 23rd overall pick. Chase, a 6'7' F that can get up and down the floor and can attack inside, Chase averaged 8 ppg 8 rbs per game and is third all time in total rebounds in the schools history with 707.
Coach Magley is excited about the selections, and can't wait to get them on the court "You know, having the second last selection in every round can be tough on a coaching staff, but we utilized our time this weekend at the combine, and made sure that we would be prepared in case any of our selections were no longer available. Luckily we didn't need to use them, as all three of our guys were still on the board. I am really excited about Dylan Yvon and Rashad, and really can't wait to see what they are going to do for us on the court."
