Saint John Riptide News Release

(Saint John, NB): Mill Rats fans and social media circles worldwide have been buzzing since Thursday about rumors of 5'6 20-year old guard Aquille Carr aka "The Crimestopper" joining the Saint John Mill Rats in the National Basketball League of Canada.

The Mill Rats can confirm that the young, stellar guard, along with Hazen Sports Management, have agreed in principle and are finalizing a deal for the 2014-15 season.

Aquille, along with his agent Daniel Hazen, are making a special trip to the Port City on Wednesday August 27th for an official visit. Fans will be able to meet Aquille (space permitting) at the Boston Pizza in East Saint John between noon and 1:30pm.

Carr jettisoned to fame in 2011 when he was reportedly offered a $750,000 contract by the Italian club Lottomatica Roma after scoring 45 points as a high school sophomore at the Junior International Tournament in Milan, Italy.

He also developed a considerable following his hometown of Baltimore, MD. The Baltimore Sun characterized him as a "must-see phenomenon". His high school games were relocated to university arenas due to huge crowds turning out to see Carr.

He received numerous nicknames, the most notable being "The Crime Stopper", for his alleged effect on the city's crime rate. His high school coach, Harry Martin said, "The crime in East Baltimore probably goes down during our games." Just o ne of his highlight videos on YouTube has received over 6,000,0000 views to date.

CBS Sports called him "one of the most explosive scorers in the country". Sports Illustrated wrote, "He has explosive speed, electric ball-handling skills and court vision that could rival Steve Nash's."

In 2013 Carr declared himself a professional and entered the NBA D-League's draft where he was a 3rd round selection by the Delaware 87ers. In 10 games, Carr averaged 10.7 points per game in 14 minutes off the bench as a rookie. He parted ways with the club to deal with family issues back in Baltimore, and prepare for the NBA Draft. He went undrafted this past June.

And he is coming to Saint John.

Projected to team with the league's reigning MVP, guard Anthony Anderson (aka Double A), to form perhaps the hardest backcourt in the NBL Canada to contain.

"We believe Aquille will one day grace an NBA stage and its our job to help prepare him for that opportunity," said Mill Rats Head Coach Julian King. "There is no question he has the talent, but we want to help him learn how to be a professional and provide him stage to gain experience on."
